About Kick Butts Day

About Kick Butts Day

What is Kick Butts Day?

The Campaign For Tobacco-Free Kids created Kick Butts Day to be a nation-wide day of youth activism when teens take action against Big Tobacco. March 21st, 2012 marks the 17th annual Kick Butts Day. Visit www.kickbuttsday.org to learn more.

What are The 84 Youth doing on Kick Butts Day?

The 84 Movement is a statewide movement of youth fighting Big Tobacco to make Massachusetts healthier and tobacco-free. The 84 has over 70 school-based and community Chapters throughout Massachusetts and 46 of them are joining the Kick Butts Day event. A group of highly involved 84 members formed The 84 Youth Leadership Team, and together, they have been preparing for Kick Butts Day for months. This day would not be possible without their dedication and planning. On March 21st, The 84 youth will participate in the following events:

  • Training to inform youth about the Kick Butts Day message
  • A march through the Boston Common to the Massachusetts State House
  • Meetings with legislators
  • A youth rally at the State House
  • Legislator remarks and presentation of The 84 Chapter Award and The 84 Youth Leadership Award

Our Message

Today, our message is clear. When we meet with legislators, we will educate them about the tobacco industry's marketing tricks that affect our communities and urge them to support us in fighting tobacco. We will tell them that:

  • Tobacco is everywhere.
  • It's too easy for youth to get.
  • The tobacco industry is directly targeting youth with its cheap and kid-friendly tobacco products, and it needs to STOP.

It's time to fight back against Big Tobacco's influence in our communities. Today we are kicking Big Tobacco's butt!
